One of the churches mission projects is a local project
called F.I.S.H. This stands for "For Instant
Sympathetic Help".
This is a community
food panty program that serves the Linden School District.
The pantry is housed in the basement of the Linden Presbyterian
Church. Food donations come from churches, schools and 'Curves'
of Linden has also been very supportive. Money generated
is used to purchase this food and to take advantage of local
meat sales. Money donations come from the local Kiwanis,
Eastern Star, Masons, individuals and 2 local churches.
Our church has been a major contributor.
This is an all volunteer
program chaired by Mildreda Robbins from the United Methodist
Church. Several from our church fill food orders after they
have been approved / screened through our church office.
Volunteers also pick up food and stock the shelves, fill
Easter and Thanksgiving baskets. More help is always welcome
and needed. Talk to Linda Lewis, Lola Manner or Mil for
information.
With the economy being
what it is, we have been getting many requests. From Jan
- June 2008 we serviced 94 families which total 340 people.
For the same time period in 1007 the number of families
was 69 or 248 people.
A major source of income is the "CROP WALK" held
each year in Fenton. F.I.S.H. receives 1/3 of the
total money collected. Several from our church walk in this
event collecting pledges for the distanced walked. In 2007
F.I.S.H. received $1,255.00 from this walk. Your
pledges to these walkers is greatly appreciated and we thank
you. This annual walk is coming soon. Please remember these
walkers and offer to support them with a small or large
donation in October.
You may also donate food items by leaving them in the basement
and marking them for F.I.S.H. Check the Mission Board
in Whitney Hall for the most needed items. Monetary donations
can be left in the office or put in the collection plate
on Sunday morning clearly marked for F.I.S.H.
On behalf of all the
families serviced we say thanks for your support.
